Del Mar is a beautiful city adorned with lovely sights and gorgeous homes. With a splendid climate, incredible scenery and top-notch shoreline, it’s no wonder that Del Mar homes for sale are so highly sought-after.

As if there were not already enough reasons to love Del Mar, it’s also home to charming fairgrounds and the famed Del Mar Thoroughbred Club.

Del Mar Fairgrounds

The Del Mar Fairgrounds is home to the San Diego County Fair, which boasts a history that stretches back to the 1880s. The Del Mar Fairgrounds proudly shares insights into the annual event’s beginnings, which culminated out of a dire need to discover who grew the best citrus, baked the best pie and owned the fastest horse.

While both admirable and humble, early fairs were not wholly successful. It wasn’t until the fair moved to permanent grounds in Del Mar and incorporated horse racing in 1936 that it really showed promise. According to the Del Mar Fairground’s website, the fair greeted 50,000 attendees on opening day and every day for the next week and a half, indicating an overwhelming success which has carried on to present day.

Del Mar Thoroughbred Club

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club was started by none other than Bing Crosby, Joe E. Brown, Gary Cooper and Oliver Hardy. The seaside racetrack has thrilled fans since its opening day back in 1937, when according to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, Crosby himself greeted visitors at the entrance.

The Del Mar racetrack was also the site of the legendary race during which Seabiscuit bested Ligaroti back in 1938. Per the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, the spectacular race took place in front of 20,000 fans plus a nationwide radio audience.

American Pharoah’s Triple Crown this year proved to be one of the highlights of the year, and not just for horse racing fans. According to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, Ahmed Zayat’s homebred bay began his career right here at the Del Mar’s world-class thoroughbred track.

The Del Mar Market

Del Mar is an astonishingly beautiful and remarkably unique place to call home. The seaside city is small and charming and intended to be both. With a scenic backdrop and noteworthy attractions that have stood the test of time, it’s easy to see why Del Mar real estate is highly coveted.
