Rancho Santa Fe Covenant Houses

Architect Lilian Rice, chose to mimic the Spanish Revival Style for this planned community. Rice was hired in the early 1900s, and she was urged to create an equestrian enclave. Building of this unique community started in 1922, after the Lake Hodges Dam was finished and delivered water to the area.

Between World War I and World War II Rancho Santa Fe Covenant houses became very popular, after the completion of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. Bing Crosby became one of the original residents of 'The Ranch', and he would annually hold clambakes at the Club’s golf course. To acquire a membership at the RSF Golf and Tennis Club, individuals are required to be a homeowner in this exclusive enclave. The golf course is situated in the center of The Covenant, and is commended as one of the finest golf venues on the west coast.
